Introduction

The Effect of Rewards in the Classroom

There are many different kinds of rewards that can be used in the classroom. Rewards can be used as a tool to motivate students to learn and participate in the classroom. There are many reasons that teachers use rewards in the classroom. Here is a list of advantages that I found on a blog on BookWidgets:

  1. Appropriate Behaviors
  2. Increased Motivation
  3. Joyful Students
  4. Boosted Self-Esteem
  5. Completed Homework
  6. Improved Results

Using rewards in a classroom can help stimulate behaviors in the classroom. When students are rewarded for a behavior, this a positive reinforcer, making the student more likely to continue the behavior. When students are motivated to do better in the classroom, improved results come along. For example, students may complete their homework as an effort to earn these rewards. When students earn rewards, they become joyful and feeling better about themselves, boosting their self-esteem.
